A hard day today, although it was short at 90km, there was still 2,000m of ascent. Lots of single track and one huge 15km climb. I had a little crash early on in some deep sand, but worked had to get back on my group. i finished in 35th place whihc I am pleased with. This is certainly getting me fit, as it was another 5 hour day. Last stage tomororw - short 65 km - bring it on!

This is an amazing result - considering the INternational Pro field that you are riding against - let's see some more tomorrow!

I am a firm believer that every dog has its day. Today was mine. It was 5C coller and I had a point to prove. I finished in 19th place having ridden in the lead bunch for 4 hrs. Spent two climbs with Olympic mtb champion. I'm backand well. Can't wait

Well done Shippy despite the circumstances and crazily hot weather. Heard than Riaan went well today coming 28th or so whihc is absolutley awesome. Hope you manage to get a ride in (perhaps with 20% plus riders as dnf's they can do somethiong informal). Great to hear the feedback about the L2P out there!

With so many dnf's there is a bit of a "revolt" to carry on riding (although not allowed), so many of us are just joining the official bunches a way down the road. Still a great event but a pit that so many of us have already landed up like this.

Well, have recovered from medical issue. Seems that I was not the only one. About 20% of the entrants have had to withdraw due to the extreme conditions. Really dissapointed after all my training that has ahad to happen.

Disaster on Stage 2, had to be pulled off the race by race doctor with 30km to go due to heat exhaustion, 40 deg C heat, on a drip at present and absolutley devastated after all the preparation, Riaan finished the stage on his own, shocker

Stage 1: Knysna - George. Distance: 123km, Climbing: 3091m. A traditional start as we leave the beautiful coastal town of Knysna, up Simola Pass, a 3km climb with a 7% gradient. And that was only the first climb of tha day! A hard day in the saddle.

Woke up feeling good and raring to go after all the UK winter training. First day of the Cape Epic was a 17km 350m prologue - and it was hard. My team partner is Riaan Boshoff - see photos in the news section of the web site.
