Cycling events company HotChillee today (4 February) launched the The Alpine Challenge. With fresh branding and a fantastic new website this challenging event will satisfy the desires of those multi-day cycle sportivers who are looking for the ultimate ride, and are able to tackle some of the toughest terrain in the French Alps.
The Alpine Challenge is a 4-stage event designed using the same formula as The London-Paris - the highly-successful, flagship HotChillee event. Entries go live on the 23rd of February via The Alpine Challenge website, and with anticipation already high the events team at HotChillee expect the event to quickly reach its capacity.
Based out of the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy in the Savoie, the scenery and riding on The Alpine Challenge is breathtaking and riders will enjoy the benefits of rolling road closures, motorbike outriders and lead vehicles, whilst riding in seeded groups commensurate with ability and supported by a professional crew including masseurs, mechanics and Mavic neutral service.
The event provides the opportunity to ride a series of mountain stages (approximately 110-120km per day), and is created to offer a 'Tour de France' like experience. Following a stunning warm-up ride around Lake Annecy on arrival, the event starts with a 10km mountain time trial which is used to seed riders into the appropriate Groups. Thereafter comes 3 mountain stages crossing some of the infamous mountain stages such as the Cols des Aravis. Each day there is a flagged timed climb, of which the aggregate time determines the Sigma Leaders Jersey (male and female) for the next stage.
Ex-Tour de France winner Stephen Roche, who cycled the event in 2010, was effusive about his experience at last years Alpine Challenge, stating, "The experience of riding The Alpine Challenge brought back all the feelings of that crazy La Plagne mountain top stage in 1987 when I won the Tour de France. The most real it can get for an amateur."
Alpine Challenge director Sven Thiele is understandably excited about the prospect of this year's event, which will once again take in some of the greatest bike riding country in the world, he states, "We were blown-away by the response to the inaugural event in 2010, people genuinely felt that the challenging environment and the event logistics made the event feel very much like a Continental stage race.
The London-Paris has a wonderful social network, and that is replicated on The Alpine Challenge. Riders meet many new friends and riding partners, they create new business contacts and they all share a real passion for cycling. There are no barriers to mixing and interacting and many participants of our events have become very close to all of the HotChillee events team. We have an even better event planned for 2011 and feel that The Alpine Challenge will surpass people's expectations".
