HotChillee End of Season Ride & Lunch ends the year with a bang

Monday 21 November 2011

Last Sunday it was the much anticipated HotChillee End of Season Ride and Lunch, giving us all the chance to share one last ride before the cold weather really sets in.

The pre-ride is usually a quiet affair, with a few hardy cyclists kitted out in their winter training gear. This year the great weather saw a 50 rider turnout. The ride started with a gentle roll-out to Cobham, followed by a straight shallow climb to traverse the A246 before a steep climb of Crocknorth. There was a re-group at Ranmore church and then onto Box Hill, where most riders took the opportunity to play out their Olympic fantasy, tackling it with a charge. The ride stayed as a single group, allowing the opportunity to socialise on two wheels and was a great pre-curser to the hearty lunch.

Grant Bovey joined in the cycling action, along with birthday duo and Ride Captains, Rachel Przybylski and Michael Blann.

The lunch was held at the Hand & Spear, where those on the ride were able to warm up over an informal and relaxed lunch. More people joined, including Anthea Turner, Yanto Barker and Niklas Gustavsoon from Team UK Youth, bringing the group to 76. Ride Captain Mike Attenborough also attended the lunch, even though he had a plane to catch for his move back to South Africa. Needless to say, there were lots of sad goodbyes.  And with Movember upon us, there was lots of interesting facial hair. Yanto Barker had by far the best moustache, but sadly the award for the least impressive has to go to Dan Scott of TheTriTouch.

It was a fantastic day - that for some ran into the night – with a great mix of riders and crew from The London-Paris and Alpine Challenge 2011. Thanks to all who came and made it such a special day. Here’s to the 2012 cycling season (and in the meantime, some overseas’ warm weather cycling).
